Scholarships! Attention families of high school graduates and Springfield residents! Did you know that Libbie Cass Library offers a scholarship to residents of Springfield with concrete plans for further education? Those plans could be a four-year school, community college, or trade school. You can stop by at the library to pick up an application. You can download a copy from our website. Just click on the library scholarship tab. And, there should be copies at school. See your guidance counselor to pick one up. All scholarship applications are due April 30th. There is a reception here at the library to receive the scholarship in June. We try to find a date when all the recipients can make it. Stop by or call the library if you have any questions. S.T.E.A.M.-powered Story Time! As parents or grandparents maybe you are aware of the popularity for all things S.T.E.A.M. That is science, technology, engineering, art, and math. Picture books such as Iggy Peck, Architect, Rosie Revere, Engineer, and How to Code a Sandcastle are filling bookshelves. Schools and libraries and classrooms focus on makerspace time where kids create their own designs and blueprints, and then build. And it’s okay to fail or if it doesn’t look pretty. It’s the process. It’s flexing our math muscles.
But what does this look like for 2-5 year olds? For the entire month of April, every Tuesday at 10:00am, Libbie Cass Library will be holding a S.T.E.A.M.-powered StoryTime. We’ll connect literacy and books with imagination and building. Keva planks, magformers, blocks, and more! Please call or email the library to reserve your spot!
